Francis Xavier Department of Management Studies (FXDoMS) organized a guest lecture for the course Financial Management & Modelling on 23rd February 2026 at 11.00 AM under the initiative of the Finance Club. The session on the topic “Start-Up: Source of Financing” was delivered by Aswin Babu, Ventures Analyst at Speed Team Group. The event was coordinated by Dr. D Annie Rose Nirmal,HoD/MBA with the support of student coordinators Mr. Sha Alam Haji O B, Mr. Sikkandar Khan N, Mr. Siva Prakash M, Mr. Sugan B, Ms. Priya Dharshini M, and Ms. Rama Lakshmi S from I MBA. The objective of the session was to provide students with practical knowledge about different sources of start-up financing and to connect theoretical financial concepts with real-world business practices.
During the session, the resource person provided an overview of the Indian start-up ecosystem and explained how innovation and entrepreneurship are shaping modern businesses and discussed various funding options available for start-ups, including bootstrapping, angel investment, venture capital, and debt financing. The speaker clearly explained the differences between equity and debt financing, highlighting their advantages, risks, and impact on ownership and decision-making. He also introduced students to common valuation techniques used by investors such as revenue multiples, discounted cash flow (DCF), and comparable company analysis, emphasizing the importance of scalability, profitability, and risk assessment when securing funding. The session helped students understand the real-world application of Financial Management & Modelling concepts and encouraged them to explore opportunities in entrepreneurship and venture capital.
