Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam was an Indian scientist and politician who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born in a Muslim family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He worked as a scientist and defense technologist for the Indian government, primarily working on developing ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He later became the Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of Defense Research and Development in the Defense Ministry. In 1998, he was elected as a member of parliament in the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He also served as the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India from 1999 to 2001. During his tenure as president, he was known for his focus on economic development, education, and scientific research. He also promoted cultural harmony and understanding between different religious groups. After leaving office, he returned to his work in scientific research and education. He died in 2015 after suffering a cardiac arrest while giving a lecture at IIM Shillong.
