On 03.08.2023, a session on “Avenues in Entrepreneurship for Engineering Graduates” was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Civil Engineering. The resource person for the session was Mrs.P.Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli from 1.30 PM to 3.30 PM. 80 students and 2 faculties attended the programme. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. R.Swetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College.
The resource person started the session with a question why entrepreneurship? And the answer given by her was to provide employment, profit making and the need to learn more. Entrepreneurship is an arena where the Idea and results take precedence over educational background. She also mentioned that unwavering passion, ambition, self-confidence, adaptability, humbleness, hardworking, persuasive and comfortable with risk are some of the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur. She also explained different types of entrepreneurship like small business, online business, home based business and serial entrepreneurship.
The pros of entrepreneurship are the freedom to pursue own vision, potential earnings of an entrepreneur exceed a salaried employee, the control and flexibility of own time, the opportunity to learn and gain knowledge, the sense of pride and fulfillment in accomplishing things, the chance to share learning. The cons of entrepreneurship are work schedule, no regular salary, administrative tasks, competition, disruption of one’s personal life. She concluded the session by motivating the students to develop creative and innovative concepts striking out on an original path to create a new venture thus establishing success in entrepreneurship. Students participated enthusiastically and gathered lot of information about entrepreneurship.
