On 23rd Sep. 2024, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), in association with the Department of Civil Engineering at Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli, conducted a program “Awareness of Entrepreneurship: A Career Choice”. 246 first year students from various departments participated in the program. The resource person for the event was Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli. The session was coordinated by Dr. G. Ginni, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at FX Engineering College.
The resource person introduced the concept of entrepreneurship by defining the terms entrepreneur and entrepreneurship in a clear and accessible manner, ensuring that the students understood the critical role entrepreneurship plays in today’s economy and career landscape. She emphasized the importance of considering entrepreneurship as a viable career path, particularly for students in the initial stages of their academic journey. The resource person explained that making informed career decisions early on is vital in shaping one’s professional future, and entrepreneurship offers a dynamic and empowering option for those who aspire to create, innovate, and lead. She highlighted the multiple roles an entrepreneur plays in driving economic growth, innovation, and employment creation.
She clarified that while invention refers to the creation of new ideas, products, or processes, innovation is the process of transforming these inventions into commercially viable products or services. She explained that entrepreneurship as the vehicle that brings the innovations to the market, making them accessible and beneficial to society at large. Further she focused on how the college is actively contributing to the development of an innovation-driven culture among its students. She discussed the various initiatives the college has implemented to nurture creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. She also elaborated on the opportunities provided by the platforms such as Yukti and the Smart India Hackathons, which offer students the chance to showcase their innovative solutions to real-world problems. These platforms not only help students develop their technical and creative skills but also open doors to potential business opportunities and collaborations.
The event was inspirational, equipping students with the knowledge and motivation to consider entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career choice.
