On 24.10.2024 a session on “Basics of Intellectual Property Rights and its Importance for Innovators and Entrepreneurs" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The Session was handled by Mrs. R. Aandal , Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College from 01.30 PM – 4.30 PM. 46 students and 2 faculties participated. This event was coordinated by Mrs. M. Mary Sumitha AP/EEE. This event was conducted with the guidance of Dr. Lourdes Poobala Rayen, EDC Director.

The program started with the welcome address and the introduction of the guest speaker by Mrs. M. Mary Sumitha, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College. The resource person, explained the basics of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and said that IP refers to creations of the human mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, and designs. She emphasized that protecting IP rights is crucial for fostering innovation and creativity, allowing individuals and businesses to benefit from their ideas. She also explained the different types of Intellectual Property, such as Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights, and discussed methods for protecting one's inventions. Additionally, she discussed the importance of Intellectual Property for innovators and entrepreneurs. She elaborated on trademarks, brand recognition, legal protection, and competitive advantage, providing relevant examples.

The session was highly beneficial and motivating for young innovators planning their startups and businesses, boosting their motivation significantly. Participants asked various questions during the session, which further enhanced their understanding and enthusiasm.
