On 30th April 2024, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert talk on “Business Opportunities for Civil Engineering Students”. Bothe resource persons for the program were Mr. Madesh, Proprietor, SMP Constructions, Tirunelveli and Mr. Siva subramanian, Proprietor, Phoenix design and interior, Tirunelveli. 42 first year and second year Civil Engineering students and 1 staff member attended the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of civil engineering, FXEC.

Mr. Siva subramanian explained, how to create 3ds max in architecture. He also motivated the students by explaining the steps involved in the creation of 3d model for interior design and exterior design as follows: as compared to AutoCAD, the process of creating models and drawings in max differs. Left, front, top, and perspective are the four viewports of the software. Since 3ds max is primarily a 3d software, it includes a variety of tools and functions to assist with the creation of 3d models.

Another resource person completely explained about the construction activities and its challenges, and also explained about various requirements for starting a new construction company with little investment. He also asked the students to follow six steps for a new startup such as step 1: conception (creating a comprehensive vision), step 2: team and delivery method selecting (choosing your partners), step 3: design (conceptualizing the vision & creating construction documents), step 4: preconstruction & procurement (planning the construction process), step 5: construction (actualizing the design) and step 6: close-out (wrapping things up).

Finally, both resource persons jointly interacted with the students and explained how to connect 3d max (interior and exterior) business in to the construction business. The interaction between the guest speakers and the participants was encouraging and most of the participants joined in the discussion.
