Entrepreneurial Avenues through Building Information Modelling

On 27th February 2023 an expert talk was organized on "Entrepreneurial Avenues through Building Information Modelling" for the civil engineering students by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of FXEC Tirunelveli, Institution’s Innovation Council in association with Civil Engineering Department. The resource person for the programme was Mr. Ronaldo Sam, IV year civil engineering student entrepreneur who is owning a construction firm in Tirunelveli. 40 second year civil engineering students and 1 faculty attended the session. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of civil engineering.

The guest speaker explained the concept of Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a process of creating and managing information about construction projects using virtual models that assist architects and engineers in detecting any possible design, construction, or operating difficulties. The resource person said that BIM is not a new concept but the developments in technologies have enabled the construction industry to plan, design, construct and manage more complex and larger scale projects. Building Information Modelling could be used for improving the efficiency of projects, improving the collaboration between stakeholders and creating a central model that contain all the project information are some of the added values of implementing BIM. A video was played by the resource person for the students to give a wider knowledge on the importance of BIM. The speaker also shared his personal experiences and the importance of softwares for the civil engineering students who wish to become the entrepreneur. He also stressed the need for becoming an entrepreneur to take the opportunity available to the civil engineering field.
