Expert Talk on Design Thinking & Innovation Design

On 14th December, 2023 an “Expert Talk on Design Thinking & Innovation Design” was organized by Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at 01:30 pm to 04.30 pm. Mr.S.M.Sunderrajan, AP/Mech, FXEC was the resource person. Dr.R.K.A.Bhalaji, AP/MECH inaugurated the session with welcome address.

Resource person explained the meaning of the design thinking and how the design thinking concept helps to solve the problems. The speaker also spoke about the design thinking process which involves empathizing with end-users, defining problems, ideating solutions, prototyping and testing. These stages were elucidated with real-world examples to illustrate their practical applications. Prototyping was presented as a crucial step for quickly testing and refining ideas. The resource person emphasized that this iterative approach minimized the risk of investing resources in concepts that may not meet user needs. The guest speaker gave lot of examples from various industries, showcasing successful applications of design thinking and innovation design. Examples ranged from product design and service delivery to organizational processes. The speaker addressed potential challenges in implementing design thinking, such as resistance to change, time constraints, and the need for a mindset shift. Practical strategies for overcoming these challenges were discussed, emphasizing the long-term benefits of incorporating design thinking into organizational culture. Students sought clarification on specific aspects of design thinking, implementation strategies, and the adaptability of these principles across different industries.
