On the 24th September 2024, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), in association with the Department of Civil Engineering at Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli, organised a session titled “Expert Talk on Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Cornerstones for Success.” Dr. G. Ginni, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College was the resource person. A total of 41 Civil Engineering students and 1 faculty member attended the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, FXEC.

The resource person gave an introduction to entrepreneurship, highlighting innovation as a key component. She then elaborated on how to develop innovative ideas and transform them into viable business ventures. She highlighted that many business establishments face challenges in in their entrepreneurial journey because of the proper planning. She added that successful innovation requires a combination of creativity, strategic thinking, experimentation, and a willingness to take risks. Regarding business models, she described innovation as the process of creating new or improved products, services, or processes that meet the evolving needs and expectations of customers. Through generating and implementing new ideas, technologies, or approaches, businesses can deliver added value to both the company and to its stakeholder.

She emphasized that successful business model innovation requires a willingness to experiment, take risks, and iterate on ideas until the optimal solution is found. A deep understanding of markets and how businesses operate is also crucial for success. The session was an interactive one where students actively engaged raising questions about the various innovative business models and their implementations in the real life situation.
