On 12.07.2023 an expert talk on Government Schemes for Entrepreneurship was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell in association with the IIC to create awareness about the “Government Schemes for Entrepreneurship”. The resource person for the session was Mrs. Raja Priya, Assistant professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli from 9.30 AM - 12.30 PM. 120 students and 2 faculties attended the programme. The programme was coordinated by Shirly Myrtle R, Assistant Professor, Information and Technology, Francis Xavier Engineering College.
The resource person addressed the students with the note that everyone possess the ability to become an entrepreneur if they train themselves to use their talents and experience. The speaker insisted that starting a business does not happen overnight and the entrepreneurial skills can be acquired through training. The resource person explained in detail about the various schemes, their funding agency and the eligibility criteria for obtaining the necessary fund for developing entrepreneurship.
The Startup India Seed fund scheme envisages building a robust Start-up ecosystem in the country for nurturing innovation and providing opportunities to budding entrepreneurs supported by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The Venture Capital Assistance Scheme supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is a major scheme for Agripreneurs. Stand-Up India for Financing SC/ST and Women Entrepreneurs above 18 years of age are the other schemes. Any Indian citizen having innovative idea and wish to translate their idea into working prototypes/models/processes would be eligible to apply for the scheme. The resource person also discussed about the other schemes like Single Point Registration Scheme, Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme, Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI) Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Ltd. [MUDRA].
The participants interacted with the resource person and gathered lot of information regarding the government funding schemes.
