On 11.09.2024 session on "Orientation on Entrepreneurship: A Career Choice " was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Management Studies department and IIC through offline mode. The session was handled by Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen Director EDC and IIC president Francis Xavier Engineering College from 09.30 PM- 12.30 PM on 11.09.2024. 50 students and one faculty participated.
The session started with the welcome address by Dr.V.M.Sangeetha, EDC coordinator of Management Studies, Francis Xavier Engineering College. In her speech, she highlighted the prominent role of EDC in association with IIC in enriching entrepreneurial skills to students’ community. The resource person started by highlighting the avenue and facilities available in the college for the student entrepreneurs. He also highlighted about the incubation centre, 6 startups, NIRF rating in innovation, 5-star rating of the college. He continued the session by posting the common question that the challenges in the employment. Students gave few answers such as loss of freedom, low salary package, lack of time freedom and so on. The requested the participants to identify the problems in the social domine and find a suitable solution to overcome the problems.
The resource person gave few social issues encountered by the society such as the tomato and Onion. He asked the students to find a viable solution which can be used as one of the opportunities for developing startups. Students presented few business opportunities related to Tomato and Aloe Vera in Tirunelveli District. He continued the session by highlighting government schemes like PMFME for promoting food processing unit which provide a loan assistance upto 1 Crore which provides subsidies for developing the business entities for the food processing units. He also explained another scheme namely, NEEDS (new entrepreneur cum enterprise development scheme) which provides a loan assistance upto 5 Crore and Credit Guarantee scheme.
The speaker requested the participants to think out of box to identify the opportunities for developing startups. He coined few phrases related entrepreneurship, “Start with what you have ”,“Do what you can”. The students interacted with the guest speaker and gathered lot of information.
