On 4th April 2024, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Talk on Problem Identification and the Process of Product Development. The resource person for the program was Dharshini M, Founder of Infosmite - Edutech Company, Tirunelveli. 47 civil engineering students and 1 faculty member attended the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of civil engineering, FXEC.

The resource person started the session with a quote “If you know nothing, we make you know something, if you know something, we make you know Everything”. The resource person said that the product development process involves six-stages which involves taking a product from initial concept to final market launch. This process helps to break down the tasks and organize cross-departmental collaboration and to find out how to implement a process of your own. Product development is the process of building a new product, from ideation all the way through launch. Product development begins with those initial brainstorming sessions, when you’re just discussing a budding idea. From there, the process is creative but strategic, and you may have seen it done in a million different ways.

She also explained that the initial stage of the product development process begins by generating new product ideas. This is the product innovation stage, where you brainstorm product concepts based on customer needs, concept testing, and market research. Once you’ve completed the business case and discussed your target market and product functionality, it’s time to define the product. This is also referred to as scoping or concept development, and focuses on refining the product strategy. She also discussed about the funding agencies and the application procedures involved in it. The students asked many questions and the speaker answered all the questions. In fact, it was an interactive session.
