Expert Talk on Recent Trends in Design Thinking & Innovation

On 30th December, 2022 an “Expert Talk on Recent Trends in Design Thinking & Innovation” was organized by Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 01:30 pm to 04.30 pm. Dr.R.K.A.Bhalaji, AP/Mech, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli was the resource person. Dr.S.Balakrishnan, AP/Mech coordinated the program. 40 students and 1 staff member participated in the program.

The resource person explained the meaning of design thinking and the different stages involved in the design thinking. Moreover, he underlined the need for design thinking in the process of innovation. The resource person explained the various stages such as empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test & implement with suitable examples like zomato, OLA, i phone etc. Additionally, he showed the case study about recent trends in design thinking & innovation such as uber eats & modern rest room. For instance, uber can offer customized and affordable food delivery at the tap of a button. The speaker also said that one must gather ideas, highlight the gaps and define problems, gather ideas by brainstorming build potential solutions and send for testing, get user feedback and iterate the model for the purpose of effective design thinking and innovation. The students interacted with the speaker and gathered more information.
