Exploring Entrepreneurship as a viable Long Term Solution to Unemployment

On 27th October 2023, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized an expert talk on “Exploring Entrepreneurship as a Viable Long Term Solution to Unemployment”. The resource person for the program was Dr.M.Renisha, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering, Tirunelveli. 40 first year civil engineering students and 1 faculty participated in the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs.P.Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of civil engineering, FXEC.

The resource person started the session by saying that “Unemployment remains a persistent challenge around the world". One promising solution is entrepreneurship, which has the potential to not only create jobs but also foster economic growth and innovation. Job creation, innovation, economic growth and diversification were addressed as the benefits of entrepreneurship by the speaker. The speaker stated that many potential entrepreneurs face challenges in securing startup capital, limiting their ability to start businesses and create jobs. Entrepreneurship often requires a diverse skill set and knowledge of business management. Entrepreneurship involves a high level of risk, and not all businesses succeed. Fear of failure can deter potential entrepreneurs. The speaker quoted the success story of prominent entrepreneurs. The resource person also explained about the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the need to connect with the ecosystem to navigate the challenges of starting a business. The participants raised few questions to clarify their doubts and enriched their knowledge.
