On 18th April, 2023 an “Exposure visit to Aavin Milk Production Centre” was organized by Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at 09:00 am to 04.00 pm. Dr.R.K.A.Bhalaji, Asst.Professor/Mechanical Engineering is Co-ordinator of the event. A batch of 53 second year students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College visited the “Tirunelveli District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd, Reddiarpatty Road, Tirunelveli.

The officials from Aavin Milk explained the operational aspects of milk production and processing. They said the milk is procured from 189 villages and the procured milk is sent to testing room to test the quality of milk. After the testing process, the milk is sent to storage tanks. The milk is categorized into 3 types such as TM toned milk fat up to 3.3 calories, SM standard milk fat upto 3.5 calories and FCM full cream milk fat upto 4.4 calories. The milk is then packed in packets and kept in the freezer hall. The milk is then dispatched to various sales points for the distribution to the consumers.

In the afternoon the participants were given details about the current trend in milk production, processing and distribution. They also gave information about the value-added products produced using milk as the raw material. The program coordinator discussed about the entrepreneurial opportunities available in the global market using milk-based products such as milk Peda, butter, ghee, ice cream etc. Regarding entrepreneurship, he highlighted some innovative ideas to the students. Additionally, he told about the financial support from govt. agencies to develop the business. From the exposure visit, students gained knowledge about milk production process and entrepreneurial opportunities using milk based products.
