Guest Lecture: IoT Simulation using TinkerCAD

On August 7, 2025, the MCA Department, in collaboration with the DAWN Association, hosted a guest lecture on "IoT Simulation" using TinkerCAD, held at the MCA Lab. The event was introduced by Mrs. D. Angeline Ranjithamani, Head of the MCA Department, who welcomed the resource person.

The session was designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of simulations and their significance in the Internet of Things (IoT). Targeting IoT enthusiasts, including students and professionals, the lecture aimed to equip participants with insights into real-world IoT applications and how to design and test IoT prototypes using simulation tools such as TinkerCAD.

Resource Person

Dr. M. Caroline Viola Stella Mary, Professor & Head, Department of IT and ERP Head, with her extensive academic and corporate experience, highlighted the importance of IoT and simulation technologies.

Key Highlights of the Session

  • Introduction to IoT, emphasizing its impact on various industries and everyday life.
  • Demonstration of modeling electronic circuits, programming microcontrollers, and simulating IoT devices using TinkerCAD.
  • Live demonstration of a basic IoT project to showcase practical application of the concepts.
  • Importance of simulation in the development process, allowing efficient prototyping and testing without real hardware.

Interactive Session

The lecture concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment that allowed students to engage further and clarify their doubts. Students responded positively to the guest lecture, particularly appreciating the live demonstration and the practical insights shared by the speaker.

Outcome

The session sparked interest among students in using TinkerCAD for their IoT projects, and they valued the hands-on advice provided. Overall, the guest lecture on IoT simulation with TinkerCAD was a resounding success, offering students valuable knowledge and skills in IoT simulation and development.
