On 24th June 2022 FX Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized Guest Lecture on the topic "Geographical Indication in Intellectual Property". Dr.Joe Patrick Gnanaraj, Professor, Mechanical, St.Mother Therasa Engineering College, Thoothukudi was the resource person.

The guest speaker explained the Intellectual Property Rights and the different types of Intellectual Property Rights. For each type he gave lot of live examples. He explained the concept of Geographical Indication as one of the Intellectual property Rights with examples of products which enjoys the Geographic indication from Tamil Nadu.

The guest speaker said that the geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to quality, reputation, or other characteristics that are essentially attributable to its geographical origin. The speaker gave few examples for GI from Tamil Nadu such as Madurai malligai – Agriculture, Malabar pepper – Agriculture, Green cardamom – Agriculture, Eathamozhi tall coconut – Agriculture, Nilgiri tea – Agriculture, Virupakshi hill banana – Agriculture, Sirumalai hill banana – Agriculture, Erode turmeric – Agriculture, Dindigul Locks-Manufactured, Kandangi Saree- Handicraft and Srivilliputtur Palkova- Food Staff. The speaker said that use of GI enhances the reputation of the goods, build consumer confidence, communicate the commitment to social responsibility, support regional economic development, prevent fraudulent uses of IP rights

This event was conducted through offline mode to EEE students and coordinated by Ms.M.Krithika AP/EEE and Mr.N.V.Selvam, AP/EEE. 41 students and 2 staff members participated in the program. The participants gained knowledge about GI and the features of using GI for the products.
