On 28th October 2022, a guest talk was organized on the topic “The Role of Entrepreneurs in Society” by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of FXEC Tirunelveli, Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Civil Engineering. Mrs. R. Swetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, FXEC was the chief guest of the program. The speaker defined the entrepreneur as “someone who jumps off a cliff and builds a plane on the way down”. She explained that innovation, risk bearing capacity, creative decision, managerial skills and leadership, gap filling function, business oriented tendency, economic activity, producing results and lifestyles are some of the characteristics of entrepreneurs and also mentioned that entrepreneurship reduces poverty, increases employment, fulfills the demand of the people and helps to develop the economic conditions of the country. She made a note on the various causes that contribute to the failure of entrepreneurship and the speaker ended the session with a quote of “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door”. The program was conducted for final year civil engineering students. A total of 45 students and 2 faculties attended the session. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P.Raja Priya, EDC coordinator, Department of Civil Engineering.
