On 09.03.2023 International Women’s Day Celebration was organized on the topic "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality " was organized by the Women Development Cell in association with the IIC. The Session was handled by Mrs Kavitha Jawahar, from 1.30 PM - 04.30 PM. 472 students and 72 faculties participated. This event was coordinated by Dr JONA P AP/Chemistry.
The Guest speaker Mrs Kavitha Jawahar started the conversation by high lighting the significant contributions of women to the world of invention and innovation. She added the names of some notable female innovators, such as Hedy Lamarr and Grace Hopper. Hedy Lamarr developed a technology that paved the way for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Similarly, Grace Hopper helped in creating computer programming languages. The Speaker also said that women had also played key roles in fields such as medicine, engineering and science, making ground breaking discoveries and innovations. She said women are still under represented in many areas of invention and innovation, with a gender gap in patent applications and venture capital funding. She added that diversity in invention and innovation is important, as it leads to more creative solutions and a wider range of perspectives. She represented that research had shown that diverse teams were been more innovative and successful than homogeneous ones and she highlighted the need for greater gender diversity. She concluded her speech by saying that studied had found that companies with more diverse leadership and employees tend to perform better financially.
