International Year of Millet: Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Millet Processing and Marketing

On 27.03.2023 Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a seminar on “International Year of Millet: Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Millet Processing and Marketing” from 01:30 AM to 04.00 PM. The resource person of the session was, Mr.P.Selvakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Master of Business Administration, Francis Xavier Engineering College. 50 students from third year CSE department and 2 faculties were participated in the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs.M.Bagya Lakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College.

The speaker explained about the various types of millets and its health benefits. While explaining the importance of millets and the reasons for organizing the International Year of Millet, he stressed the need for using the millets in our regular food. The speaker highlighted the value-added products using millets. He also said that Millets are rich sources of protein, dietary fiber, energy and minerals when compared to rice. Small millet-based value-added products including traditional recipes, bakery products, pasta products, flaked and popped products instant food mixes are developed and standardized by various institutes. He highlighted the value-added products using Millets like Instant Beverage From Ragi, Instant Ragi Semolina / Porridge, Jowar Flakes, Malted Ragi Flour-Enzyme Rich, Millet Based Upma & Halwa Mix, Millet Semolina (Coarse & Fine), Multigrain Drink Mix, Shelf-Stable Bajra Flour etc. The speaker explained the support provided by the government for setting up a concern for the production of value-added Millet based products.
