Seminar on Problem Solving for Entrepreneurial Opportunities

On 26.10.2022 a seminar was organized on “Problem solving is a key for Entrepreneurial Opportunities” by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Civil Engineering. The seminar was handled by Dr. R. Prem Ananth, IIC Convener, IIC innovation Ambassador for “Design Thinking and Innovations”, Assistant Professor, department of ECE, Francis Xavier Engineering College from 01.30 - 02.30 PM. The students from second year Civil and faculties of Civil department participated. The program was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, EDC coordinator, Assistant Professor/ Civil, Francis Xavier Engineering College.

The speaker started the session with the success story of Richard Montanez, the founder of Cheetos. He underlined the need to solve the problems which are already present in the social domine. While explaining the problem-solving concept the speaker explained the process of design thinking and explained the various stages involved in it such as empathy, define, ideate, prototype and test. Then he said that out of the five stages, ideate is the powerful tool for problem solving and he elaborated the ideation process. The speaker started to explain the different problem solving techniques, which includes brain storming, worst idea, storytelling, mind mapping, brain writing, questioning assumptions, sketching, analogies, SCAMPER and body storm. All the above mentioned techniques were explained with examples. As the session was interesting the participants interacted with the guest speaker and gained lot of ideas about problem solving and the innovative business ideas. 43 students and 2 faculties attended the session.
