Everyone plays an important part in keeping the environment clean and safe. To impart the importance of a clean environment, an expert talk was organized on “Keep Clean Go Green” by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of FXEC Tirunelveli, Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Civil Engineering Department on 19th Dec 2022. Dr. G. Ginni, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, FXEC was the speaker for the program. The resource person defined that the term go clean and green is used for conservation of energy, preservation and cleanliness of our environment. She stated that climatic change, greenhouse emissions, ozone layer depletion and global warming are the need for green technology. The speaker explained in detail about the greenhouse effect and the gasses responsible for it through a pictorial representation and further added that Global warming was referred to as the average increase in the earth’s temperature which in turn changes the climate. The speaker then gave a note on the ozone layer, the earth’s sunscreen which absorbs about 98% of the UV radiation. She explained that reducing pollution, consumption and waste, conserving resources and energy, and protecting the earth’s ecological balance are the basic principles of going green. The speaker gave a note on the three R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle). Finally the session ended with a discussion regarding the initiatives to make the campus green. The students shared their views to make a green campus like energy conservation, planting trees, avoiding plastics inside the campus, effective consumption of water, and reducing the usage of paper.
