On 27th April 2023 the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in connection with department of Computer Applications organized a session on “Protection of Innovative Products through Intellectual Property Rights”. Dr. A.Andrew Robert, Associate Professor, Department of ECE, Francis Xavier Engineering College. The session was coordinated by Mr.R.Albert Paulin Michael, Assistant professor, Department of Computer application.
The speaker explained the meaning of IPR and the various types of IPRs such as patents, copy rights, Geographical indications, designs etc. He underlined the need and importance of registering the patents, copy rights and other types of IPSs properly in order to protect the rights over the properties. He also stated that if it is not protected through IPR then anybody can make of the same. The speaker explained the process of registering the patent and copy rights to avoid the infringement of the rights over the intellectual properties.
The resource person gave a lot of examples for the problems faced by the business establishments because of the failure to register the patents properly to protect the rights over the innovation. He said that literary, artistic works, designs, and symbols, names and images used in the trademarks can also be protected through IPR. The speaker also raised few questions to the participants to know the level of awareness about the IPR and he insisted the participants to be vigilant to protect the rights over the trade marks, designs, patents etc. The participants also raised few questions to clarify their doubts. The entire session went on very well. Moreover, it gave an insight about the problem taken for the discussion. The session was useful to all the participants and they really enjoyed the entire session. The guest lecture provoked good response and the participants gathered good knowledge about IPR and the importance of using IPR to protect the rights of the business establishments.
