Webinar on Start-ups through Plastic Waste Management

On 23rd June, 2022 a “Webinar on Start-ups through Plastic Waste Wanagement” was organized by Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at 02:00 pm to 03.00 pm. Mr.J.Sankar, Researcher Scholar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education was the resource person. The program was held via online mode. Dr.R.K.A.Bhalaji, AP/Mech introduced the guest speaker.

The resource person explained the impact of using plastics on land, air, aquatics and sea. He gave a detailed explanation about the impact of plastics and how it affects the environment. He also discussed about the recycling options available for the waste plastics and the research work going on in the laboratories to identify the alternatives for plastics and recycling of plastics. He further added that how the recycled plastics can be used as fuel, laying roads, manufacturing constructional materials, household items and green toys.

In addition to this he explained the alternatives for plastics also. In addition to this, he shared the real time example about how to build the road by reusing plastic waste that was done by Dr.Vasudevan, Professor of Chemistry, TCE, Madurai. Moreover, he explained the government support available for developing the startups using the waste plastics. The session was very much interesting and students interacted with the guest speaker freely. 30 students and 1 staff member attended the program actively.
