On 19th July 2023 Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution Innovation Council in association with Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Women in Entrepreneurship: Breaking Barriers, Shaping the Future”. The session was handled by Dr.N.Hemalatha, Assistant Professor/EEE, FXEC. 40 students and 1 faculty member participated in the program. The program was coordinated by Mrs.A.Amala Manuela, Assistant Professor/EEE.

The resource person explained the concept of women entrepreneurs and the role of women in the economic development of a concern. She also said that women entrepreneurs are those women who think of a business enterprise, initiate it, organise and combine factors of production, operate the enterprise and undertake risks and handle economic uncertainty involved in running it.

Most women with small income are likely to become entrepreneurs. With the support of their husband they do some income generating venture. They face difficulties in obtaining financial support to start their enterprises. Women’s sincerity and hard work is the cause for sustainability and growth. Some of the main intensions of the women entrepreneurs to become an entrepreneurs are to become economically independent, to establish their own enterprise, to establish their identity in the society, to achieve excellency in their endeavour, to build confidence to themselves, to develop risk assuming ability and to claim equal status in the society.

Women are involved in

  • Agriculture and Allied industries – such as sericulture, horticulture, dairying and animal husbandry etc.
  • Home based industries-such as handicrafts, Agarbati, Candle making, bidi industry, hosiery, and textile, doll making, jewellery pottery, designing etc.
  • Outside home industries – such as electrical and electronics, food processing etc.

The participants interacted very freely and gathered information from the guest speaker.
