Workshop on Design Thinking for Civil Engineers to Promote Entrepreneurship

On 28th June 2023, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized a Workshop on “Design Thinking for Civil Engineers to Promote Entrepreneurship”. The resource person for the program was Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering, Tirunelveli. 32 students of I year civil engineering students, 13 II year Civil engineering students and 1 faculty member participated in the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs. M. Renisha, Assistant Professor, Department of civil engineering, FXEC.

The resource person explained the concept of design thinking and its importance. While explaining the concept he gave lot of live examples to understand the meaning of the concept. He also explained the different stages of design thinking such as empathize, defining the problem statement, Ideate, Prototype and Test. She also stated that for civil engineer entrepreneurship would be the best choice as an entrepreneur is an innovative and independent leader. And it can be achieved by the design thinking.

The resource person explained the need for design thinking in the present scenario and highlighted the emerging opportunities in entrepreneurship by giving lot of practical examples. She also shared the path way to achieve the key parameters of empathize, defining the problem statement, Ideate, Prototype and Test through number of practical examples. The resource person also summarizes the five design action phases. The students asked many questions and it was answered by the resource person.
