On 07.09.2023 a workshop on “Identification of Business Opportunities and Mechanism of Product Selection” was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the department of Civil engineering from 10.30 AM to 3.30 PM. The resource person for the session was Mrs. R. Swetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli. 50 third year civil engineering students and 1 faculty attended the programme. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. P.Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College.

The speaker started the session by explaining the business opportunities which enables an entrepreneur to offer a marketable products or services to the interested buyers or end users. She categorized two situational factors, product or service that is still not in existence, product or service that is already in the market but failed to satisfy the customers. She noted that an entrepreneur should create a business that is able to fulfill the needs or solve the problem.

She pointed out three approaches for opportunity identification. The first one is to observe changes in the environment. Next to recognize a need that customers have that is not being satisfied. The final approach is to recognize problems and find ways to solve it. The resource person noted that an entrepreneur should be a divergent thinker i.e he should be able to think all the possible ways to bring a solution. The resource person explained the business opportunities with lot of live examples. Students raised few questions which were clarified by the resource person. The session was interactive one and all the participants were benefitted by the session.
