On 09.06.2022 a workshop on “Product Design- Business Opportunities in Designing Home Automation Products” was arranged by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of ECE department and IIC through offline mode. The Session was handled by Dr. M. Suresh Chinnathampy, In-charge of Advance Communication Pre-Incubation Centre, Assistant Professor, Francis Xavier Engineering College, from 1.30 PM – 03.10 PM.

The Seminar was presided by Mrs J Friska HOD/ECE and coordinated by Dr. R Prem Ananth, IIC Convener, IIC Innovation Ambassador for "Design thinking & Innovations", Assistant professor, Francis Xavier Engineering College. The resource person explained the need for the engineering students to involve in designing the innovative products. He stressed the need to introduce automation in the existing process to develop the new design in all the activities one does in his/her own house.

The speaker being the professor in-charge of pre-incubation centre, he shared his own experience in developing innovative home automated products. He gave few examples of home automation products developed in his pre-incubation centre by his students. During his speech he explained the process conceiving the innovative model for the automation and developing the prototype for the same for testing its viability.

The home automation kit developed by the students in the pre-incubation unit created inspiration among the participants and they raised lot of questions and developed an enthusiasm to involve in the home automation devices. He also spoke about assembling the LED Bulb and LED Tube lights which fetches the ready market opportunity and viability. He highlighted the government support for starting a startup. Through this workshop students gained knowledge about the skills required to develop the electronic products and process involved in designing prototype for the home automated products.
36 students and 4 staff members participated very actively in the workshop which ignited the young minds to involve themselves in the innovative product development.
