Workshop on Start-up Opportunities by Converting Waste Plastics into Biochar

On 24th June, 2022 a “Workshop on Start-up Opportunities by Converting Waste Plastics into Biochar” was organized by Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at 02:00 pm to 03.00 pm. Dr.R.K.A.Bhalaji, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, FXEC was the resource person. The program was held via offline mode. Dr.S.Balakrishnan, AP/Mech introduced the guest speaker and gave welcome address.

The resource person explained the plastics waste management and stressed the need for taking effective steps to convert the plastic waste into productive product. He cited number of examples for converting the plastic waste into useful products such as manufacturing Biochar using pyrolysis process. He said Biochar can be used as one of the best bio-fertilizers for farmers, materials for condensers and also for some mechanical properties. Moreover, the manufacturing of Biochar can be used for developing startups. Additionally, resource person told that during pyrolysis process there is a chance to convert vapour into bio-oil with the help of condenser and the bio-oil can be used for skin care products. 30 students and 1 staff member participated in the program. Students benefitted a lot as they were able to understand the concept of pyrolysis and how the manufacture of biochar can be used for developing the startup.
