On 16th May 2023, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized a session on “Workshop on the Stages of Innovative Product Development for Young Engineers”. The resource person for the program was Mr.A.Sumil Kumaran, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, FXEC. 40 first year civil engineering students and 1 faculty member participated in the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs. P. Raja Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of civil engineering, FXEC.

The resource person explained the various stages of product development such as Idea generation, Idea screening and developing the prototype. The new product development process begins with idea generation, where one will brainstorm an idea that will help to solve an existing customer problem in a new and innovative way. The prototyping phase is when you come up with a sample product that is a mockup of what will be created during mass production. This prototype is often referred to as a minimum viable product (MVP), which is a basic version of your tool, still similar to your final product, that will help you get a sense of how it functions and identify any areas that need to be improved. Before launching your product you need to test it to ensure it will work as advertised and effectively solve your customer needs. So, during this stage, you’ll share your prototypes with target audiences and ask for actionable feedback on how the product works. The last stage involves creating the final product that will be commercialized once completed.

He also gave his own life experience and made the students to think, innovate and to develop new innovative products to become entrepreneur. Students interacted freely with the resource person and gathered lot of information relating to product development. The entire session went on well and it gave lot of insight to the students.
